"Some hijab, I notice, are trimmed in jewel tone silks; little pops of colour framing smiles against the black folds. Bright, rainbow-striped espadrilles peek from beneath the seat in front of me. Down the row, someone adjusts her headscarf, flashing her hot pink nail polish. One woman conspicuously flaunts a darkly shining, jewel encrusted clasp. It is easily larger than both my fists together. Joan Collins and Dynasty cross in my mind and I can’t help but smile."
