Good luck Eimear

Eimear McBride.

The winner of the Goldsmith's Prize is announced this Wednesday. Eimear McBride's A Girl is a Half-formed Thing is on the final shortlist.

This is fantastic news, of course. We're delighted. We've all been over the moon for a number of weeks. But now, I have also to admit that I'm cacking it. The closer it gets to announcement time, the more scared I become. I keep telling myself that prizes can be a lottery, that there's a strong shortlist full of excellent novels and that people will be reading Girl for years and years to come, no matter what happens. But even so… I'm cacking it. And I'm only one of the three publishers. I didn't spend long years writing the book and so I can only imagine how Eimear must be feeling. Which is why I wanted to write more of a personal front page than usual, to wish her luck - and to let her know again that we all think both she and her book are wonderful.

Think?

We know they are wonderful.
