A good review

The latest is from Words Of Mercury. It's another review that's not only favourable, but also intelligent and thoughtful.

A couple of highlights:

The White Goddess is enthralling in every sense of the word as it flings the reader head-on into a chaos of desire and inspiration, deception and place. The spirit of place and the spirit of poetry orbit and constrict the figure of the Muse which is their liberation and their undoing.

It is a rich espresso served in a bucket, which is as intoxicating and occasionally hard to stomach as its sounds.

A bucketful of espresso might be a description of Simon himself. (Although he is not quite so hard to stomach. He is, as readers of The White Goddess: An Encounter must surely have guessed by now, wonderful.)

Anyway, I shan't post more highlights here as you should really go over to read the whole review on Words Of Mercury. It isn't entirely uncritical – but that makes his final conclusion about the joy of the book all the more pleasing.
