The White Goddess: An Encounter is now available on the Kindle store.

We at Galley Beggar have concerns about this. I (which is to say, Sam) for one, am convinced that Amazon are bullies intent on destroying publishing, on building up a monopoly and on preventing writers from every being able to make an honest living again.

Even so, as a publisher, our first duty is to our author and our readers. The hard fact is that Amazon deliver – and do it well. It would be wrong to deny Simon income and readers the pleasure of his book because of our political scruples. Being honest, the bottom line is also, that we need cash, wherever we can earn it.

That's the position for now, anyway. When the revolution comes, rest assured, we'll be first at the barricades. Or at least, right behind the great Dennis Johnson and his heroic comrades at Melville House.

Anyway, the White Goddess: An Encounter will also be available on Kobo and other devices soon. Although it appears to be much slower and harder to get onto them. Which tells you a lot about why Amazon are currently winning this thing…
