Some quality press

On Monday, My Elvis Blackout was lucky enough to get a review by John Self. Better still, he liked it:

It seemed absolutely right to me: or more firmly wrong.

It ends up seeming like the most eloquent (and violent) expression of the psychopathology of fame since the best of Gordon Burn.

Do visit the site and read the rest.

Wonderful as that was, I was almost more delighted by another old review that Galley Beggar Elly dug out from a German Elvis fan forum:

We do not know who is this Simon Crump, but he is not welcome in our town.

It makes me want to buy the book all over again. On the subject of which - it's £4 in our store this week. Impossible to refuse!

Elsewhere, The White Goddess: An Encounter is still flying off the shelves. People, I'm overjoyed to say, love it. And the wonderful J J Marsh likes it so much, she's just done an interview with Simon to sit alongside her eloquent and glowing review. Here's a quick sample:

As for pigeon-holing the book, if in doubt – and you're feeling generous – give it a shelf to itself. Others will join it, I'm sure (or it will join others). Personally, I think it's a good thing, every now and then, to find a book which is in some ways not quite like any other.

Ha! Instead of quoting more, I'll urge you to read the full thing on the Jill's blog so that she gets some much deserved traffic.

And that almost brings us to the end of a wonderful year. I'm going to try to write a wrap-up post at some stage, but in case I don't, let me just put in one more bit of propaganda. If you get an iPad, ebook reader, new phone or anything that reads an electronic book for Christmas and you're wondering how to fill it on Boxing Day, hurry over to our store. If anyone you know gets one, send them to our store too. If they're too scared to download from us, send them to Amazon. If they're too scared to download My Elvis Blackout, there's not much we can do. Except lie to them, of course. Tell them it's about lovely fairies. And make sure they get the White Goddess too. Good Christ, just pinch their wallet and post us the money.

Okay, I think I should stop now.

Happy Christmas!
Sam

PS - Original copies of My Elvis Blackout cost around £50 nowadays. And they're a steal at the price. But not such a steal as our £4 ebooks!
