Feedback

We've just started sending out proofs of Randall by Jonathan Gibbs, and we're already getting feedback. The kind of feedback that makes my fingers tingle, my eyes sparkle and gives me an urge to first pump the air and dance like Sam Herring from Future Islands.

A few minutes ago, for instance, this landed in my inbox:

A compulsive and hugely entertaining look back over 90s Britain in the form of a satirical alternative history of the Brit-art scene as told through the outrageous rise and demise of celeb-artist Randall whose death leaves his closest friends and family to consider the implications of his provocative legacy. Smart, funny and delightfully inventive, Randall is another very exciting debut from Galley Beggar Press.

That came from the brilliant novelist, James Miller.

We've also had the following from brilliant novelist (and TV star!) Alex Preston:

Told in luminous, biting prose, Jonathan Gibbs' debut novel is a rare delight. Brilliant on art and money (neither of which are easy subjects), this is a novel that is at once funny and heartbreaking, intelligent and fiercely gripping. A book whose characters sing on the page - I missed them as soon as I finished the last few beautiful paragraphs. This will be yet another hit for Galley Beggar Press."

Pretty soon, I won't need to bang on any more about how much I love this book, because everyone else is going to love it too. I dearly hope so, anyway.

Both those writers also noted that the narrative voice reminds them of Nick Carraway from The Great Gatsby. I agree. But it's such a wonderful compliment, I've so far held it back from publicity material. We don't want to sound like we're inviting impossible comparisons. But even so, it is there… And this book is very special.

We're doing an initial print run of 1,000 copies. In other words, there are only going to be 1,000 first editions in the world, and we aren't expecting them to last long. If you want to pre-order a signed one, or two, or twenty, now is the time to do it. This book will bring you great joy - and your grandchildren will thank you…
