Galley Beggar in the Bookseller

A new Norwich-based publishing house, Galley Beggar Press, aims to publish titles with potential that bigger publishers have shied away from taking a risk on, and plans to bring cult US novels back into print.

Henry Layte, owner of The Book Hive bookshop in Norwich, has founded Galley Beggar Press together with Guardian books journalist Sam Jordison and his wife, writer Eloise Millar. The team found the name in a book of folklore, wanting something "impish and puckish". Layte said: "We found that one of the definitions for it was 'an annoying person from Suffolk', and given the rivalry between Norfolk and Suffolk, it seemed to fit."
